Recycling & Sustainability

The driving force behind Ponogirl swim and active wear is to not only create beautiful garments but to do so with the highest consideration to maintaining ethical business practices and using sustainably sourced fabrics for all of our garments.

Reducing the impact on the earth, the ocean and our fellow human beings is the ethos of what it means to;

“Live Pono”.

Ponogirl proudly uses Carvico fabrics for our swim and active wear ranges.

All the fabric dyes used in our garments are certified Eco-Friendly, GOTS & OEKO-TEX® approved.

All our packaging is made from Cassava starch which creates zero waste & is 100% Bio-degradable.

Mahalo for joining us on this journey of awareness and consideration.

Carvico Fabrics & ECONYL® YARNS

CARVICO fabrics use ECONYL® yarns to manufacture their fabric range.

ECONYL® utilizes their “RESCUE / REGENERATE / REMAKE / REIMAGINE” process to regenerate plastic and nylon waste from fishing nets, fabric scraps, carpet flooring and industrial plastics.

Through their process of regeneration and purification they produce ECONYL® regenerated nylon which is processed into the yarns and polymers used in our CARVICO fabrics.

ECONYL® regenerated nylons are infinitely recyclable and can be regenerated to create new products.

The ECONYL® process reduces the negative impact on both the environment and climate and promotes the drive to sustainability and preservation of resources.

HOPE FOR THE FUTURE

It’s our goal to become 100% sustainable over the coming years and we couldn’t do it without your help.

The more we can raise awareness about environmental sustainability and our impact the better off our beautiful world will be in coming years for our children, grandchildren and future generations to come.

Foundations We Support

PonoGirl embraces sustainability by donating 2.5% of Product Sales to our Supported Foundations

Surfrider Foundation's mission is to protect and enjoy our ocean, beaches, and waves, for all people, through a powerful activist network.

The Oʻahu Chapter is one of the most active chapters in the Surfrider network, and they work on issues ranging from plastic pollution and water quality to beach access and coastal preservation.

They are largely volunteer-run and donations go to support their work in the community.

HWF has actively protected native wildlife in Hawaiʻi since 1996.

HWF is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the conservation of Hawaiʻi’s marine wildlife.

Hawaiʻi Wildlife Fund’s mission is to protect native wildlife, focusing on coastal and marine wildlife species in the Hawaiian Islands, including the hawksbill sea turtle (honuʻea) and the Hawaiian green sea turtle (honu).

We engage our communities and volunteers in education, outreach, marine debris removal, conservation, research and advocacy campaigns and lawsuits to keep Hawaiʻi alive and wild.
From volunteering, internships, donating or adopting, we offer a variety of ways you can help this organization thrive!
